The Meteorological Departmenthas issued a warning for several areas in upper Thailand to be cautious of a "summer storm" . The summer storm is currently moving in and is expected to cause thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, and lightning in some areas. This is due to a high-pressure system or cold air mass spreading over northern Vietnam and southern China, which will affect many provinces in Thailand, especially those in the northern region.
Meteorological Department Announces When "Summer Storm 2569" Will Hit Thailand
Today (23 Feb), the Meteorological Department issued statement number 3 (3/2569) regarding the "summer storm in upper Thailand" . The summer storm will impact the period from 23 to 25 February 2569 (2026). The announcement states that the upper part of Thailand should prepare for the summer storm, which is expected to first affect
the northeastern region, followed by expansion to the northern region, the central region, Bangkok and its vicinity, and also the eastern region. The weather will be unstable with thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, possible hail in some places, heavy rain in certain areas, and a risk of lightning in some locations. In the southern region, winds over the lower Gulf of Thailand will be moderate, with waves 1-2 meters high. In areas with thunderstorms, waves may exceed 2 meters. Mariners in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea are advised to navigate with caution.

Hot daytime weather with about 10% chance of thunderstorms and some strong gusty winds. Minimum temperatures range from 19-24°C, maximum 31-37°C. Winds from the southwest at 10-15 km/h. The northern provinces affected by the summer storm are:
- Chiang Mai,
- Chiang Rai,
- Nan,
- Lampang,
- Tak,
- and Phetchabun.
- Northeastern Region
Hot daytime weather with about 10% chance of thunderstorms and some strong gusty winds. Minimum temperatures 20-24°C, maximum 36-38°C. Winds from the southeast at 10-15 km/h. The northeastern provinces affected include:
- Nakhon Phanom,
- Khon Kaen,
- Maha Sarakham,
- Nakhon Ratchasima,
- and Ubon Ratchathani.
- Central Region
Hot with hazy skies during the day, about 10% chance of thunderstorms and some strong gusty winds. Minimum temperatures 23-26°C, maximum 36-39°C. Winds from the south at 10-15 km/h. Affected provinces in the central region include:
- Lopburi,
- Uthai Thani,
- Ayutthaya,
- Kanchanaburi,
- and Ratchaburi.
- Bangkok and Vicinity
Hot with hazy skies during the day, about 10% chance of thunderstorms and some strong gusty winds. Minimum temperatures 25-26°C, maximum 33-37°C. Winds from the south at 10-15 km/h. The affected areas in Bangkok and surrounding provinces are:
- Nonthaburi,
- Bangkok,
- and Samut Prakan.
- Eastern Region (including coastal areas)
Hot with hazy skies during the day, about 10% chance of thunderstorms and some strong gusty winds. Minimum temperatures 24-27°C, maximum 32-38°C. Winds from the southeast at 15-30 km/h. Seas have waves below 1 meter near shore, about 1 meter further out, and over 2 meters in thunderstorm areas. The affected eastern provinces are:
- Sa Kaeo,
- Chonburi,
- Rayong,
- Chanthaburi,
- and Trat.
- Southern Region, East Coast (Gulf of Thailand)
About 10% chance of thunderstorms. Minimum temperatures 21-25°C, maximum 32-37°C. From Chumphon northwards, seas have waves about 1 meter high; in thunderstorm areas waves exceed 2 meters. From Surat Thani southwards, waves 1-2 meters high; in thunderstorm areas waves exceed 2 meters. Affected provinces include:
- Prachuap Khiri Khan,
- Surat Thani,
- Songkhla,
- Yala,
- and Narathiwat.
- Southern Region, West Coast (Andaman Sea)
About 10% chance of thunderstorms. Minimum temperatures 23-25°C, maximum 35-37°C. Winds from the east at 15-30 km/h. Seas have waves about 1 meter high near shore and over 1 meter in thunderstorm areas. The affected provinces on the west coast are:
- Phang Nga,
- Phuket,
- Krabi,
- Trang,
- and Satun.
- Residents in risk areas should increase caution regarding the 2569 summer storm,
avoiding staying outdoors, under large trees, or near unstable structures and billboards to prevent harm from strong winds and lightning. Farmers are advised to support or secure fruit trees firmly and prepare plans to protect crops and livestock, as well as take care of their health during these unstable weather conditions.
