The Thai dessert scene has made a name for itself as the food platform TasteAtlas announced its Top 25 Thai Desserts of 2026. The beloved Thai street food"Khanom Krok"claimed the top spot with an impressive review score of 4.3 out of 5, based on votes from food critics and consumers worldwide.
The charm of Khanom Krok that captivates the world
TasteAtlas defines Khanom Krok as a bite-sized Thai dessert often likened by foreigners to a pancake, pudding, or Thai-style cake, with distinctive features that have won global hearts.
Its unique appeal comes from a “two-in-one texture,” achieved by pouring batter in two stages into a cast-iron pan. The bottom layer is a rice flour and coconut milk mix baked to a perfectly crisp golden brown, while the top layer is a smooth, creamy coconut milk topping.
It offers a balanced flavor that blends gentle sweetness with the rich saltiness of fresh coconut milk. Toppings like green onions, taro, corn, or pumpkin add both color and a playful dimension of taste and texture.
Beyond Khanom Krok, many other Thai desserts also made the Top 25 list, underscoring the strength of Thailand’s Soft Power. Popular treats such as mango sticky rice, layered dessert, lod chong, mixed dessert, grass jelly, fried bananas, and Thai doughnuts were all featured this year.
This success on TasteAtlas not only fills Thais with pride but also showcases the cultural diversity of Thai cuisine. It highlights the skillful use of local ingredients like fresh coconut milk, rice flour, syrup, and herbs, as well as the harmonious blending of Chinese culinary influences into Thai traditions. It affirms that“Thai desserts”are a powerful form of Soft Power ready to win the hearts of food lovers worldwide.
