Labor Market in 2026: AI Skill Demand Soars by 109%

A 2026 workplace skills survey finds AI skills essential, especially in content creation, while human skills remain precious and cannot be replicated by machines.

A report from Upwork, a platform for freelancers, reveals that labor market demand for AI-related skills has risen by 109 percent, with the highest demand among content and video creators using AI, where demand has surged by 329 percent.

However, what is notable is that current employers are not only seeking technical experts to build systems but are especially valuing those who can apply AI in specific contexts alongside human skills that machines cannot replicate.

Data from McKinsey, a management consulting firm, supports this view, noting that over 70 percent of skills in the labor market benefit from enhancement through technology but still require human experts for oversight.

Meanwhile, 12 percent of jobs remain reserved exclusively for humans, making emotional intelligence (EQ), creativity, and adaptability crucial assets that help workers maximize AI’s potential.
