Next year, Sony may shake up the gaming industry by releasing three gaming hardware models: PS6 Lite, the standard PS6, and a portable device.
Moore’s Law is Dead, a YouTuber with inside information on gaming, revealed that Sony plans to launch PlayStation 6 (PS6) next year with a different approach than before. They will release three models to cover a wider range of players’ needs—from high-end gamers seeking maximum performance to those looking for affordability and portable gaming.
The high-end model remains the PlayStation 6, a premium gaming console using a new CPU and architecture under the codename Orion to deliver a realistic gaming experience.
Meanwhile, the lower-tier PS6 S or PS6 Lite will be positioned as an affordable gaming console using AMD’s Canis chipset. Additionally, there will be a handheld gaming device called the PS6 Handheld.
The most notable issue is the potentially unprecedented price increase. The top PS6 model could cost between 699 and 999 US dollars (approximately 23,000 to 33,000 baht). This rise is driven by electronic component prices and a worsening shortage of RAM throughout this year.
The budget PS6 S or PS6 Lite is expected to retail around 399 to 549 US dollars (about 13,000 to 18,000 baht), while the portable model may be priced between 499 and 699 US dollars (roughly 16,000 to 23,000 baht).
This upward price trend aligns with Sony’s recent increases for the PS5 and PS5 Pro earlier this year, reflecting a shift away from budget consoles toward premium hardware with higher production costs worldwide.
