Next year, Sony may disrupt the gaming industry by releasing three gaming hardware models: PS6 Lite, the standard PS6, and a portable device.
Moore’s Law is Dead, a YouTuber with insider gaming information, revealed that Sony plans to launchPlayStation 6(PS6) next year, with a launch approach different from the past—offering three models to meet a wider range of player needs, from high-end gamers seeking maximum performance to those looking for affordability and portable gaming.
The high-end model remains the PlayStation 6, a premium console featuring a new CPU and architecture under the codename Orion, designed to deliver a realistic gaming experience.
Meanwhile, the lower-tier PS6 S or PS6 Lite will be positioned as an affordable console using an AMD chipset codenamed Canis. Additionally, there will be a portable gaming device, the PS6 Handheld.
The most notable issue is the potential for unprecedentedly high prices, with the top PS6 model possibly costing between 699 and 999 US dollars (approximately 23,000 to 33,000 baht). This reflects rising electronic component costs and a worsening RAM shortage this year.
The budget-friendly PS6 S or PS6 Lite is expected to be priced around 399 to 549 US dollars (about 13,000 to 18,000 baht), while the portable model may cost between 499 and 699 US dollars (roughly 16,000 to 23,000 baht).
These rising prices align with Sony’s recent price increases for the PS5 and PS5 Pro earlier this year, indicating that the era of affordable gaming consoles is giving way to premium hardware with higher production costs worldwide.
