Sony issued a statement confirming that the authentication system on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 requires only a one-time check (One-time check), so players do not need to stay online constantly to access purchased digital games.
Sony, owner of the PlayStation 5 (PS5) and PlayStation 4 (PS4) platforms, eased gamers' concerns after users noticed a '30-day license check' countdown appearing when purchasing digital games following the system update in March.
Initially, it was speculated that if players did not log into the PlayStation Network (PSN) or connect to the internet within the specified time, their game access rights would be suspended. However, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) clarified that the system requires only a one-time online check to verify license validity. After this, players can access their games normally without repeated license verifications.
Sony likely introduced this system to prevent refund fraud, where players purchase a game, request a refund immediately, then disconnect from the internet to continue playing offline. This measure applies only to digital games bought after the March system update and does not affect games purchased before then.
