Salaried workers under Section 33 must know! Social Security rights in case of illness include free treatment under entitled benefits and 50% income compensation. Also, check UCEP rights for emergency critical illness treated free at any hospital for 72 hours.
What Social Security rights do salaried workers have under Section 33 in case of illness?
For office workers or salaried employees who contribute monthly to the Social Security Fund as insured persons under Section 33,"Rights in case of illness"are one of the most fundamental rights you should know. When accidents or illnesses occur, Social Security helps cover medical expenses so you do not have to pay anything when receiving treatment at hospitals within your chosen entitlement.
- Conditions for eligibility: You will receive medical treatment rights only if you have contributed for at least 3 months within 15 months prior to the date of medical service.
How does Social Security Section 33 compensate income loss when seriously ill and unable to work?
Beyond free treatment rights, if your illness is severe enough that a doctor orders rest and you have used sick leave with full pay from your employer for 30 days under labor law but still have not recovered, Social Security also provides"income replacement benefits"to help cover expenses, under the following conditions:
- Compensation amount: You receive 50% of your wage (calculated from a maximum wage base of 15,000 baht, so the maximum benefit is 7,500 baht per month).
- Payment duration: Benefits are paid for up to 90 days at a time and not exceeding 180 days per year (except for chronic illness cases, where Social Security pays benefits up to 365 days).
Emergency critical illness (UCEP): Free treatment for 72 hours at any hospital
Accidents or illnesses are unpredictable. If an insured person is in a"emergency critical illness"or qualifies under UCEP (Universal Coverage for Emergency Patients), they can receive immediate treatment at the nearest hospital, whether public or private, without upfront payment within the first 72 hours, by presenting only their national ID card.
The 6 emergency critical illness symptoms qualifying for UCEP are:
- Unconsciousness, unresponsive, not breathing
- Severe acute chest pain
- Rapid breathing or severe breathlessness
- Weakness of one side of the body, sudden unclear speech, or continuous seizures
