Fiery Courtroom Drama: Netflix Launches Thai Legal Series “The Evil Lawyer” on 11 June

Prepare to experience a fierce Thai courtroom drama series on Netflix that explores every shade of the justice system through cunning battles and sharp strategies in typical Thai courtrooms where nothing is purely black or white. Often, it’s hard to tell which side is good or evil. In this twisted system, will one accept their fate as a good person, or choose the "way of the devil" to fight back?','tags':['courtroom drama','Thai justice system','Netflix series']

“The Evil Lawyer” is the first courtroom drama series directed by Kai-Natthaphol Boonprakob, an award-winning director known for the series “Express War,” in collaboration with creators Sam-Jakrin Thepwong and Sun-Songpol Chantasom. This project was further developed from the 2023 Content Lab initiative by the Creative Economy Agency (CEA).

What makes this series compelling is the extensive research over five years into the legal and lawyering world to authentically and engagingly depict courtroom battles in Thailand. The director also uses a unique camera movement technique connecting the courtroom to each case’s crime scene, making the staging and editing within the court both challenging and powerful.

A major role reversal for "Ying Rhatha" as the rebellious lawyer

For the first time in her acting career, Ying-Ratha Pho-ngam takes the lead role as “Lawyer Jittri,” a fiercely rebellious female lawyer. Her character’s style and appearance break traditional lawyer stereotypes. She rejects fixed principles and embodies multiple layers—cool, ruthless, and mischievous.

Jittri’s character reveals a different perspective on the justice process and encourages viewers to see people in many dimensions, as no one is entirely good or evil. Viewers are invited to discover why she chose this path and employs methods many consider "the devil’s way."

Clash of ideals and contradictions with “Nat Kitcharit”

Lawyer Jittri faces off against “Mek,” a young lawyer steadfast in ideology and legal correctness, played by Nat Kitcharit. He describes this role as the most unpredictably developed character in his life. Mek is central to driving the story, starting as a lawyer upholding noble beliefs and rules but becoming entangled in dark secrets and eventually accused himself.

FateCircumstances force Mek to learn survival through Jittri’s world. He struggles internally between maintaining his principles or using every sharp tactic and trick to escape the case. The series does not ask if Mek’s actions are right or wrong but challenges viewers with the question, "What would you do?"

Beyond the two leads, the series features a talented ensemble cast unveiling the complexities of the justice system and power industry, including Prim-Ajariya Pothipipitthanakorn as a new-generation politician advocating migrant labor laws; Kob-Songsit Rungnopakunsi as a seasoned police lawyer; and Tom-Polwat Manuprasert as a stern senior judge who prioritizes law over family. Also starring are Tu-Phopthorn and Paophet Charoensuk, who enrich the series with realistic mysteries, moral dilemmas, and dark power struggles in each case.

Everyone is invited to uncover the truth in the courtroom and consider whose perspective defines right or wrong in “The Evil Lawyer,” streaming worldwide on Netflix from 11 June.
