Notably, the national team kits for the 2026 World Cup, especially those from African countries, have been designed by Puma, which has incorporated the cultural roots of each nation into the fabric patterns.
Most of the 48 participating countries' World Cup 2026 kits are designed by three major brands: adidas, Nike, and Puma. Puma supplies kits for 11 nations, including five from Africa: Ghana, Senegal,Ivory Coast,Morocco, and Egypt. This makes Puma the largest outfitter of African national teams among all kit manufacturers, surpassing giants like Nike and adidas.
Furthermore, Puma launched the African national teams' World Cup 2026 kits emphasizing the unique cultures of each country.
The Black StarsKnown as the “Black Stars,”Ghana has used Puma kits since 2005. Their home jersey primarily features white, but for the 2026 World Cup, Puma designed a pattern resembling a giant spider web on the shirt, inspired by the legend "Kwaku Anansi," the clever spider from West African folktales, intertwined with narratives of woven cloth, "Kente," a national symbol originating from weavers trying to imitate spider webs.
The white jersey is accented with red, yellow, green, and blue lines, symbolizing wisdom, creativity, and resilience.
The yellow away kit also contains hidden details, drawing inspiration from the vibrant “Makola Market” in Accra, Ghana's capital. It features Kente patterns contrasted with dark green side stripes and a black star on the chest, mirroring the home jersey.
Known as the Elephants, though their logo features an elephant, the kit's patterns resemble leopard skin, complemented by traditional local woven textile motifs from Ivory Coast.
The standout kit is the white away jersey, decorated with palm tree and sun motifs. Puma drew inspiration for this design from Ivory Coast's street culture.
Senegal's kit draws inspiration from "Car Rapide," hand-painted minibuses that run through the city, turning into moving artworks. The jersey features a lion paired with a baobab tree and indigenous graphics in red, yellow, and green tones. A remarkable detail is Puma’s reverse printing technique, producing a soft pastel look outside while vivid colors appear inside the shirt.
The away kit is a greenish-blue with a “kaleidoscope” pattern centered on the jersey. However, the away colors bear a strong resemblance to those of Cameroon's national team.
Puma has placed Egypt's most iconic symbol, the pyramids, on both home and away kits. However, compared to other African nations, Egypt’s kits feature fewer intricate details despite focusing on the pyramid motif.
Morocco's home kit is deep red accented with green, resembling the star on their national flag. The collar and sleeve ends include patterns inspired by Morocco’s heritage. The away kit draws inspiration from Moroccan tiles, carpets, and textiles. Although simple in appearance, it exudes a luxurious feel.
