Transforming Public Health! Launch of SEA HI Hub Propels Thailand Toward Becoming the Switzerland of Healthcare

The SEA Health Summit 2026 concludedsuccessfullywith a joint launch of SEA HI Hub and SPARK Southeast Asia, aiming to propel Thailand toward becoming the 'Switzerland of Healthcare' and targeting 100 million patients.

Transforming ASEAN public health toward a global innovation center

The inaugural SEA Health Summit 2026 successfully concluded on 30 June 2026 at the Naphalai Grand Ballroom, Dusit Thani Hotel, Bangkok. More than 400 leaders from Thailand and Southeast Asia attended, marking the region’s flagship conference focused on AI in Health and Longevity to accelerate health innovation in Southeast Asia.

This event was a key collaboration between RISE, SeaX Ventures, and Krungthep Turakij (Nation Group), united by a shared vision to create a global platform for shaping the future of healthcare systems, fostering knowledge exchange, perspectives, and partnerships that will improve millions of lives and drive new economic growth. The event was honored by the participation of Professor Dr. Yossapon Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, along with Mr. Pattana Promphat, Minister of Public Health, together with policymakers and senior executives worldwide.

Unveiling four pillars to establish Thailand as the 'Switzerland of Healthcare'

A major milestone was reached with the signing of a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) among leading medical institutions, university medical centers, private hospitals, and health agencies under the SEA Health Innovation Hub (SEA HI Hub) network, a nonprofit organization aiming to create one of Southeast Asia’s largest health innovation ecosystems.

This partnership network includes government, academic, and private sectors from all regions, such as Mahidol University, Chulalongkorn University, King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi, Navamindradhiraj University, Chiang Mai University, Khon Kaen University, Prince of Songkla University, Naresuan University, Suranaree University of Technology, the National Innovation Agency (NIA), Thailand Institute of Life Sciences and Innovation (TILSNA), Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Public Company Limited (BDMS), Phyathai-Paolo Hospital Group, Bumrungrad Hospital, MedPark Hospital Group, Vimut Hospital, Medic Group Public Company Limited, T. Man Pharmaceutical Public Company Limited, Meditop Company Limited, and Caremore Plus Company Limited.

SEA HI Hub’s strategy is built on four key pillars to drive innovation from the lab to real-world application.

  1. Clinical Access: Through partner hospitals in the region to support clinical trials and generate real patient data at competitive costs.
  2. Capital: Connecting promising startups and health technology worldwide with investors and deep tech funds.
  3. Regulatory Fast-Track: Supporting sandbox mechanisms and accelerated approval pathways for health innovations at national and regional levels.
  4. Market Access: Building business partnerships, distribution channels, and networks across Southeast Asia.

Dr. Supachai Pachariyanon, founder of SEA HI Hub, stated that this marks Thailand’s public health system declaring it is time to move beyond being merely a place for patient care to becoming a center for world-changing innovation. Thailand boasts JCI-accredited hospitals, internationally recognized researchers, and clinical research costs 3-5 times lower than the United States. Creating a new innovation-driven economy and becoming the Switzerland of Healthcare is no longer a dream but a plan currently in progress.

Adopting Stanford's model to launch SPARK Southeast Asia addressing unmet medical needs

Another key highlight was the launch of SPARK Southeast Asia, the region’s first translational health innovation program and official member of the SPARK GLOBAL network. This program was originally founded by Dr. Daria Mochly-Rosen at Stanford University in 2006 under the concept of “Translational Scientists Without Borders.”

SPARK Southeast Asia will provide researchers, physicians, and scientists access to expert advice on drug development, new diagnostic methods, and commercial translation from global experts. It will also serve as a platform for Investigator-Initiated Trials (IIT), prioritizing diseases with unmet medical needs or poor outcomes, such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and dementia.

Dr. Suwinai Jiraboonsee, drug innovator and co-director of SPARK Southeast Asia, added that while the region has high-quality research and talented personnel, it still lacks a support system to translate research into innovation. Adopting Stanford’s SPARK model will establish this support, aiming to celebrate the registration of the program’s first approved drug in the region, following Stanford’s recent approval by the US FDA.

Setting the future target to reach 100 million patients across the region

The long-term goal of this collaboration extends beyond the national level to a regional economic strategy. Currently, the SEA HI Hub network reaches more than 25 million patients and aims to expand patient access to 100 million by 2028.

SEA HI Hub is currently negotiating with strategic partners in neighboring countries, including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, with plans to continuously expand the network in the second half of 2026 to establish Southeast Asia as a true global health innovation hub.
