GTA 6 has become the number one game on the PlayStation Store across all countries worldwide, surpassing EA Sports FC 26 despite not yet being officially released.
Grand Theft Auto VI, or GTA 6, the latest title from Rockstar Games, is making waves on the PlayStation Store. Since pre-orders began on 25 June 2026, it has climbed to the top of the best-selling charts in nearly every country around the world within just five days, covering major markets such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, and most European countries.
This trend was first noted by users on the ResetEra forum, who compiled sales ranking data from the PlayStation Store in every country where Sony's digital store operates. They found that GTA 6 holds the top spot in pre-order sales, surpassing long-time favorites like EA Sports FC 26, eFootball, and Fortnite.
However, neither Sony nor Rockstar Games has revealed the actual pre-order numbers. We only know that in terms of rankings, no other game currently matches GTA 6.
Gaming media outlet Push Square also confirmed GTA 6's strong performance, noting that even in smaller markets such as Denmark, Indonesia, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, and Hong Kong, GTA 6 firmly holds the number one position.
Another notable detail is that in nearly every market where GTA 6 tops the charts, the best-selling version is the Ultimate Edition, priced as high as $99.99 USD.
Obviously, the fact that the most expensive version of GTA 6 leads sales on the platform reflects the massive volume of pre-orders behind it.
Another key factor driving digital sales is Rockstar Games' decision not to include physical discs in retail boxes. Instead, the boxes contain only download codes. Since both formats are priced the same and lack resale value, many players choose to buy directly from the PlayStation Store.
Industry observers believe this decision aims to prevent game data leaks prior to release and to address issues related to the secondhand game market.
There are some exceptions where the game is not available for purchase, such as Kuwait and Taiwan, but these are rare compared to the overall global trend.
Amid this surge in pre-orders, there is also activity inside Rockstar Games' own studios, where employees are pushing for official recognition of a labor union.
This movement follows layoffs of certain employees in 2025, which union supporters view as retaliation against union organizing efforts.
Rockstar Games maintains that the layoffs were due to serious misconduct. Nevertheless, the employee demands continue, with leaders stating their negotiating position is stronger than before the layoffs. Despite internal complexities, this does not appear to affect consumer demand.
This outcome is not surprising, as Grand Theft Auto VI has long been one of the most eagerly awaited games in the industry’s history. This pre-order phase merely confirms the immense global interest. Some analysts even predict GTA 6 could become the fastest-selling game of all time upon release, potentially holding that record for a long time—even though the official launch is still about five months away and fans have yet to see any actual gameplay footage.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on 19 November 2026 for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S platforms.
