The Pokémon Company announced a partnership with the J.League, the organization overseeing Japan's professional football leagues J1, J2, and J3, designating each of the 60 clubs to have their own official Pokémon team mascot based on a theme. "Evolution" This theme pairs each club with the evolutionary line of a specific Pokémon species.
Among the 60 clubs under J.League's management, several notable pairings include Kashima Antlers, multiple-time top league champions, matched with Charmander evolving to Charizard.
Meanwhile, Urawa Red Diamonds is paired with the Litten evolutionary line through Incineroar; Yokohama F. Marinos with Azurill evolving to Azumarill; and Vissel Kobe with Houndour evolving to Houndoom.
Other interesting pairings include Nagoya Grampus with the Cyndaquil evolutionary line through Typhlosion; Kyoto Sanga with Gastly evolving to Gengar; Tokyo Verdy with Rowlet evolving to Decidueye; and Machida Zelvia with Froakie evolving to Greninja.
In J2, Oita Trinita is matched with the classic Squirtle evolutionary line through Blastoise, while Shonan Bellmare is paired with Piplup evolving to Empoleon.
The Pokémon and J.League collaboration will begin on 7 August 2026 and continue until late September. During this period, eco-friendly tote bags themed "Evolution!" will be distributed at all home matches. "Evolution!" These tote bags will be given to spectators attending games in the stadium.
Additionally, tote bags printed with Pikachu, the mascot representing the Japan national team, will also be distributed. Pikachu accompanies the home club's official Pokémon mascot at each match, allowing fans to receive bags featuring designs unique to the team they support.
