A detailed insight from the AXA Mind Health Report 2026 reveals that nearly half of the global population suffers from burnout, with young people facing the most severe crisis, while Thailand leads as number one in the mental health index. It also highlights a rising trend of young people turning to AI for mental health support.
Mental health issues and burnout are becoming a silent crisis threatening people worldwide. Recently, AXA released insights from its annual “AXA Mind Health Report 2026,” reflecting the mental health crisis and multifaceted challenges faced by populations globally.
A survey of over 19,000 people across 18 countries, including Thailand, found that mental health problems are steadily increasing, with 46% of respondents currently experiencing burnout or mental health issues.
Of particular concern is the group of young adults and workers aged 18-34, a vital segment of society, who require close attention. Data shows that 59% in this group suffer from burnout and mental health problems, a figure 13% higher than the global average.
Despite global concerns, Thailand shows an interesting trend. The report states that Thailand’s Mental Health Index stands at 66.5, the highest among the 18 surveyed countries, surpassing major powers and developed nations such as Switzerland (65.4), China (63.8), and the United States (63.0).
Thailand’s score also exceeds the global average of 61.8, while several countries score below average, such as the United Kingdom (59.5) and Japan, which ranks last with 58.1. These statistics reflect that Thai people generally have better mental health than many other countries. Nevertheless, challenges among the younger generation remain as critical as global trends.
With technological advancement, coping behaviors for mental health issues are changing. Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly playing a clear role, with 63% of respondents reporting they have used AI to help manage or consult on their mental health, likely due to the desire for private safe spaces and quick, convenient access.
The mental health and burnout crisis is no longer distant. Although Thailand ranks well globally in mental health, young people remain a vulnerable group. Combining AI technology, preventive health planning, and fostering understanding among those around them will be key to tackling mental health challenges today.
