Another mall-breaking phenomenon has emerged. After last year's record of over 600,000 attendees, Vithita Group (creator of the legendary "Khai Hua Roh") has teamed up with CentralWorld to double the cuteness at Character Fest Thailand 2026, now in its second year. The event has evolved from just a mascot gathering into a national Pop Culture festival spanning over 1,000 square meters.
This year's wow factor is the Pop Star Party theme, which transforms Thai characters and famous brands from mere "supporting roles" or "presenters" into debuting "pop star artists" (Cultural IPs) with lives, stories, and their own fanbases, aimed at driving Thailand's creative industry and soft power onto the global stage.
The event offers more than just cuteness; it also hides a strong economic strategy. Pimphicha Utsahajit, Executive Director of Vithita Group (representing Khai Hua Roh), shared her insights during an Exclusive Talk session. She stated intriguingly that
"Today, the character industry competes not just in product sales but in storytelling, building fandoms, and embedding characters into people's daily lives. Previously, characters were often viewed only as presenters or guests, but we believe they have the potential to become T-Pop idols. This year's event is thus not merely a cute fair but a Pop Culture Fest that showcases Thai characters, creating a new ecosystem linking business opportunities and pushing Thai characters beyond national recognition."
This aligns with the vision of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). Parichat Boonklai, Director of Marketing Management at TAT, emphasized the power of Character IP in the tourism industry. "Currently, tourism focuses on communicating culture and stories. Using characters is an economic strategy that is both charming and powerful because they can communicate across languages, be universal, and create emotional touchpoints for tourists. Characters like 'Nong Sukjai' and 'Nong Luckyim' act like little hosts and guides, attracting tourists. TAT plans to introduce them at tourism events worldwide to entice foreigners to experience Thailand."
For art toy lovers, character fans, or collectors of cute items, get ready and dive into four exclusive highlight zones you must not miss at this event.
1. Character Pop Carpet: The Red Carpet of the Stars
Forget the image of mascots handing out freebies. For the first time in Thailand, a red carpet is rolled out for over 38 characters to shine like A-list artists debuting at the event, posing for fans to capture photos extensively.
2. Character Show: Exclusive Stage Performances
A stage where each character showcases their persona and uniqueness through specially designed performances for the event, allowing fans to get close and create memorable moments with their favorite characters.
3. Character Collab vs Battle: Cross-Universe Showdown
This zone promises excitement as characters from different camps and universes meet, featuring adorable collaborations and surprise battle missions that are sure to go viral on social media.
4. Character Market & Landmark: Limited Edition Shopping & Giant Photo Spots
Shoppers prepare to splurge as this zone gathers limited-edition merchandise from creators and famous brands. Highlights include the booth of the beloved idol 'Butterbear' and fun activities from the brand Yued Pao, along with grand landmark photo spots throughout the mall.
The event brings together stars from every field, led by classic Khai Hua Roh characters (Editor Vithita, Nu Hin, Pangpond), Pee Ko (Ko Kae), Nong Vee (Visa), Watt-D (PEA), Maewmong (Wan Tamongde), Nong Pao (CP ALL), Pee Taro and Nong Krispy Bear (Taro), Snow King (Mixue), Lulu The Piggy (TOYZEROPLUS), Yuu Chan (ISUZU), including characters from GMMTV (Poka-Sang) and many more.
Also featured are 'Nong Sukjai' and 'Nong Luckyim,' key figures from TAT. A highlight is the new look of 'Nong Sukjai' (a character born post-tsunami to heal tourists' spirits), now joined by 'Nong Luckyim,' a mischievous Wichian Mas cat character who adds fun to travel. Both communicate universally, making them excellent magnets for Thai and foreign tourists, aligning with TAT's 'Emotional Touchpoint' strategy.
The event runs for only four days, from 14 to 17 August 2026, and is free to attend. Visit Level 1, Beacon Zone, Central Court, and Eden at CentralWorld. Fans of any character should prepare their lightsticks and come join the fun.
