The origin of “Siam Park Sea-Bangkok” in 1980

Siam Park’s story began in 1980 with the establishment of Amornphan Nakorn–Siam Park Co., Ltd. to manage Siam Park, a large water and amusement park on over 300 rai, officially opening on 19 November 1980.

The name familiar to the public became “Siam Park Sea-Bangkok,” along with the well-known slogan “a world of happiness, unforgettable fun.”

The founder was Dr. Chaiwat Luangamornlert, a real estate developer who continuously developed the area into a place for relaxation, water and amusement park, school excursions, and a venue for various important events.

Early era of Siam Park: Hosting the Miss Thailand pageant, more than just water and rides

Within a few years of opening, Siam Park expanded activities and attractions steadily. In 1982, it opened a wax museum featuring important and famous Thai figures. In 1984, it hosted the TOY WORLD EXPO’84, and in 1985, Siam Park was a venue for the Miss Thailand pageant.

This period showed that Siam Park was more than a place for water fun and rides; it became a venue for festivals, exhibitions, and large-scale events that continually brought new experiences to visitors.

When Siam Park became a stage for international shows

Siam Park increased international rides and performances: in 1987 it opened the Indiana Log ride; in 1988, the Super Spiral and Big Holiday’88 festival; followed by performances such as Hot Ice from England, the American Circus, Shaolin acrobatics, and international magic shows.

In 1991, Siam Park held SIAM FESTIVAL’91 celebrating its 10th anniversary, followed by the Chinese lantern puppet show Ji Gong in 1992 and again in 1993, plus shows like Hot Ice, King Kong, and the opening of the Dinotopia building featuring German animated dinosaurs.

For children then, visiting Siam Park meant encountering new, foreign attractions without leaving Thailand.

Siam Park in the 1990s: memorable large events and entertainment

Throughout the 1990s, Siam Park continued hosting large events including Chinese acrobatics, the Big Holiday festival, Hot Ice shows, Bao Zheng exhibitions, and Cyber Magic performances.

In 2000, marking its 20th anniversary, Siam Park opened Big Holiday’2000 and Alaska Fantasy, a snow town using Japanese technology to simulate real snowfall, followed by the 20th-anniversary celebration in November.

Another memorable event for music lovers was in 2003 when Siam Park co-hosted the Heineken Fat Festival, a music festival featuring over 200 bands and attracting more than 50,000 attendees. From a children’s and family space, Siam Park gradually became an entertainment hub for all ages.

Era of major rides adding thrills to “Siam Park”

From the mid-2000s, Siam Park added many new rides and zones. In 2005, Jurassic Adventure opened featuring 60 moving dinosaur models. In 2006, the Big Double Shock ride was introduced.

A major turning point came in 2007 with the launch of Vortex, a twisting roller coaster, alongside rides like Boomerang, Si-Am Tower, Aladdin, and Giant Drop, shaping Siam Park’s modern image as not only a water park but a thrill-ride destination drawing tourists.

Siam Park Sea-Bangkok earns record for largest artificial sea in the world

A major milestone occurred on 20 April 2009 when Siam Park’s “Sea-Bangkok” was certified by Guinness World Records as the largest artificial sea in the world. This central Bangkok artificial sea, a key feature from the park’s start, became officially recognized worldwide.

In 2010, Siam Park celebrated its 30th anniversary, receiving an Outstanding Entertainment Recreation Tourism Attraction award at the 8th Thailand Tourism Industry Awards, and won the same category again in 2012 and 2017.

From “Siam Park” to “Siam Amazing Park”

After several decades, Siam Park continued adding new rides and areas such as Take Off in 2013, Ranger in 2014, Break Dance in 2016, and the Si-Am Lagoon water zone in 2017 designed for family fun. Renamed “Siam Amazing Park,” the park was divided into themed worlds: Water World, Extreme World, Adventure World, Family World, Small World, and Bangkok World.

In 2022, Bangkok World opened on 70 rai at the park’s front, replicating Bangkok’s key architecture and landmarks with retail areas featuring community enterprise products nationwide. In 2025, Ranger’s Pirate Lagoon, a pirate-themed water slide in Sea-Bangkok, opened as one of the latest developments in Siam Park’s timeline.

An amusement park of “memories” spanning more than four decades

Looking back from Siam Park’s opening on 19 November 1980 to today, the story is not only about rides or water attractions built over time but also about the people who grew up alongside it.

Some know Siam Park from childhood visits with parents; others from their first school excursions; some remember the feeling of seeing Sea-Bangkok for the first time or summoning courage to ride a roller coaster; many later returned as parents bringing their own children to the same place, making it an unintentional part of their memories.
