Samsung Likely to Cut Production Costs by Halting Galaxy S26 Camera Upgrade Plans

Rumors indicate Samsung has abandoned plans to upgrade the Galaxy S26's camera, opting to retain the existing sensor to maintain pricing competitiveness against the iPhone 17.

According to a report by The Elec, a South Korean electronics news agency, Samsung is likely to use the same rear camera setup for the base Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+ models. The technical specifications remain unchanged, featuring a 50-megapixel main camera, a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x zoom, and a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens—the same hardware used in the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S24, Galaxy S23, and going back to the Galaxy S22.

The key point of this report is that Samsung has been reusing the same camera system for five consecutive years, dating back to 2022.

The main factor behind this decision is cost. Reports indicate that originally,Samsunghad planned to upgrade the camera system but had to suspend those plans and revert to the existing sensors after assessing that Apple would not raise the price of the iPhone 17. This aligns with previous information showing that Apple's pricing strategy directly influences the specifications of the Galaxy S26.

Another interesting point is that although Samsung is using the old sensor set, it must modify the internal chassis structure to accommodate these sensors because the original Galaxy S26 design blueprint was developed to support a different, new sensor set.
