The situation of the iPhone Air 2 has become interesting once again. Previously, there were rumors it would be canceled, but it seems this slim, lightweight, special edition will continue into next year.
The iPhone Air 2 has become a topic of renewed debate after Fixed Focus Digital, a source from the Weibo platform, released information contradicting earlier reports, confirming that Apple is continuing the iPhone Air 2 and plans to release it next year.
This information directly contradicts a report from The Information, which stated that Apple had instructed engineers and suppliers to temporarily suspend iPhone Air 2 development indefinitely, with no clear rescheduling. There were rumors some engineers considered postponing the new model's launch until spring 2027 to coincide with the iPhone 18 release.
The iPhone Air 2 is expected to address major weaknesses of the first model. Apple plans to redesign the chassis and is considering adding a second camera lens, along withattempting to set the priceto be more appealing to users, after the first model experienced disappointing sales.
Additionally, reports mention improvements to the Vapor Chamber cooling system and an increase in battery capacity, while still maintaining the device's slim and lightweight profile.
In the same report, sources also discussed the upcoming budget iPhone 17e, which has already entered mass production in preparation for a launch event around March 2026. This marks a strategic shift for Apple toward annual budget model updates following the iPhone 16e.
The iPhone 17e is expected to receive significant upgrades, such as adopting the Dynamic Island design in place of the traditional notch, using the A19 chipset to support Apple Intelligence features, bringing back a glass back that supports MagSafe wireless charging, and possibly being the first model equipped with Apple's self-developed C1X modem to test its performance and stability before wider use in flagship models.
