Launch of Xiaomi 17 Ultra with Special Leica Edition Featuring Manual Zoom Ring

Xiaomi 17 Ultramarks the returnof a customizable physical control button on the camera module, along with a Periscope lens offering seamless true optical zoom power.

Xiaomi chose the Christmas season to launch its flagship smartphone of the year, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra. This time, the design was changed by removing the supplementary rear display that was a highlight of the Xiaomi 17 Pro, replacing it with a zoom ring installed directly on the camera module.

The zoom ring feature is reserved exclusively for the Leica Edition, which comes with distinctive craftsmanship including Leica's iconic red dot logo and a textured frame. The ring can be reconfigured to control exposure compensation or focus as desired.

Additionally, the Leica Edition includes special software with unique film color simulation, as well as accessories in the box such as a Leica-branded lens cap and cleaning cloth.

In terms of specifications, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, supports up to 1TB storage and 16GB RAM, features a 6.9-inch OLED screen, and houses a 6,800mAh Silicon-Carbon battery.

The highlight of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition is its camera system. The main camera has a 50-megapixel resolution with a large 1-inch sensor and f/1.7 aperture. The most significant change is the telephoto lens: whereas the Xiaomi 15 Ultra used two separate zoom lenses, the new model consolidates into a single 200-megapixel Periscope lens covering a zoom range from 3.2x to 4.3x. It features Continuous Optical Zoom across all distances with an adjustable aperture from f/2.4 to f/3.0.
