Meta Shakes Up Social Media with Premium Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp Testing

Meta is preparing to add new features through a premium subscription system that allows users to view Stories without leaving traces, highlighting the intelligent AI 'Manus' as a selling point.

Meta plans to test a new premium subscription system across its apps—Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp—aimed at granting access to special features that enhance productivity and advanced AI capabilities. This testing will roll out in the coming months while maintaining free basic usage. General users will have the option to choose a distinct experience through the subscription.

Each application will feature uniquely designed functionalities tailored to a broad user base, not limited to creators as with the existing Meta Verified service.

A key strategy in this plan is integrating Manus, the advanced AI agent recently acquired by Meta, into the subscription package. Meta intends to embed Manus across its products to facilitate user experience.

Additionally, Meta will shift access to its AI short video creation tool, Vibes, to a freemium model. Free users will have a limited video creation quota, while subscribers will unlock unlimited video production and gain deeper customization tools.

On Instagram, enhanced features will include the ability to view others' Stories anonymously, access lists of followers who do not follow back, and create unlimited target audience lists. These features focus on improved privacy control and deeper relationship management. Meta aims to leverage insights from Meta Verified to develop products appealing to individual users and small businesses seeking agile communication and content creation.

However, Meta faces the major challenge of subscriber fatigue, which is widespread currently. This may require Meta to closely gather user community feedback to develop features that are necessary and valuable enough to motivate users to pay monthly fees within Meta's ecosystem.
