Google has upgraded its search with a Personal Intelligence system that links Gmail and Google Photos data to provide personalized answers, while also launching AI Overviews in Gmail to summarize email content.
Google announced a major update to its search system, enabling users to ask follow-up questions directly from AI Overviews, thereby entering deeper conversational interactions in AI Mode.
This change also includes switching the core processing model to Gemini 3, which Google believes will deliver the most efficient and accurate answers on the search page. The key goal is to transform the search experience from static results into an AI-driven interactive experience that supports complex queries and deeper information needs beyond basic searches.
Robbie Stein, Vice President of Google Search Products, stated that users seeking in-depth understanding should have immediate access to powerful Conversational AI without needing to start a new search. Company testing shows users appreciate smooth conversations and context retention from AI summaries in follow-up questions. This development is designed as a seamless path linking overviews to more detailed conversations tailored to user needs.
Additionally, Google has integrated the Personal Intelligence system into AI Mode, allowing AI to connect with data across Google's ecosystem, including Gmail and Google Photos, to deliver precisely customized answers tailored to individual needs.
Beyond the main search updates, Google has fully extended AI Overviews into Gmail, enabling users to search mailbox information using natural language instead of traditional keywords. This update launched alongside the new AI Inbox, focusing on efficient email summarization and management. This reflects Google's effort to connect services through the power of Gemini, aiming to enhance user experience with greater personalization and intelligence in the future.
