
The long-standing record held by the Nintendo DS has been broken, as the Nintendo Switch 2 has set a new milestone by selling nearly 18 million units in less than a year, surpassing the Nintendo Wii U's sales.
In a section of Nintendo's earnings report, it was revealed that the Nintendo Switch has accumulated worldwide sales of 155.37 million units since its launch in 2017. This figure means the Switch has now surpassed the legendary handheld Nintendo DS, which held sales of 154.02 million units.
Nintendo's next goal is to surpass Sony's PlayStation 2 sales, which ended production in 2013 with 160 million units sold.
Nintendo confirmed that the company will continue selling the original Nintendo Switch model even though the Nintendo Switch 2 is now the main product on the market.
,Nintendo Switch 2experienced a significant sales surge during the holiday season, with sales reaching7.01 million units during the high shopping period.This brought the total Nintendo Switch 2 sales to 17.37 million units since its launch in June 2025. In less than a year, it has surpassed the sales of the Nintendo Wii U.
Nintendo has set a target to sell 19 million Nintendo Switch 2 units by the end of this fiscal year.
