Omdia's figures clearly indicate that Apple shipped the most smartphones in 2025, totaling 240.6 million units, surpassing Samsung's 239.1 million units. The overall mobile phone market grew by 2 percent.
A report from Omdia, a technology research and consulting firm, revealed that in 2025, the smartphone industry grew by 2 percent, with total shipments reaching 1.2455 billion units, up from 1.2232 billion units in 2024, reflecting a 2 percent increase.
Apple emerged as the global smartphone market leader in 2025 with shipments of 240.6 million units, capturing a 19 percent market share, a 7 percent growth from the previous year.
Samsung followed in second place, holding the same 19 percent market share but with fewer shipments at 239.1 million units. Its growth rate matched Apple's at 7 percent from the previous year, reflecting that both brands have maintained a loyal premium customer base amidst competition from Chinese smartphone makers.
Ranking third to fifth are all Chinese smartphone manufacturers: Xiaomi, Vivo, and Oppo. Among them, only Vivo showed growth compared to the previous year.
Specifically, Xiaomi shipped 165.4 million units, holding a 13 percent market share; Vivo shipped 105.3 million units, holding 8 percent; and Oppo shipped 100.7 million units, also with an 8 percent market share, equal to Vivo's.
However, the most noteworthy highlight is Honor, which became the fastest-growing brand among smartphone manufacturers, recording an 11 percent growth rate and holding a 6 percent market share in the smartphone market.
Interestingly, Omdia analysts warned that in 2026, the smartphone industry might face significant challenges due to shortages and rising prices of memory components, including DRAM and NAND. This could pressure smartphone makers to either raise prices or accept lower profits to maintain their customer bases.
