Google Maps Major Upgrade Adds Gemini to Enhance Travel Experience

Google Maps has introduced Gemini to aid travel, enhancing comprehensive trip planning. The rollout begins in the United States and India, with plans to gradually update worldwide in the next few months.

Google Maps, Google's mapping service, has undergone its most significant update in over a decade by integrating the company's Gemini artificial intelligence to improve search and navigation accuracy. The main changes are divided into two features: Ask Maps and Immersive Navigation.

The Ask Maps feature is designed as a conversational tool allowing users to request detailed and highly specific information beyond general keyword searches, such as finding phone charging stations without queues or public tennis courts equipped with nighttime lighting. Google Maps processes data from over 300 million locations worldwide to provide results tailored to individual needs, based on users' search histories and saved places within the app.

However, Google confirms that this data usage is restricted solely within Google Maps and is not shared with other applications to protect user privacy.

Immersive Navigation upgrades the display with a 3D perspective that enhances environmental context. It features translucent buildings and elevated roads alongside detailed traffic signals and pedestrian crossings.

The new version of Google Maps will first be available in the United States, with the Ask Maps feature launching earlier in India. Google has not specified a precise date for a full global rollout but expects it within a few months.
