Stop Immediately! 5 Common Smartphone Charging Mistakes That Cause Battery Damage and Device Failure Without You Realizing

Did you know? Your daily battery charging habits might be the hidden cause making your smartphone degrade much faster than its actual lifespan.

Thairath Online reveals five battery-damaging behaviors that most people overlook. If you want to avoid frequent battery replacements, check these tips urgently.

1. Letting the battery drain completely to 0% until the device shuts down.

Many still mistakenly believe you should wait until the battery is fully drained before charging. However, for modern lithium-ion batteries, allowing the voltage to drop too low causes the battery cells to degrade, and in some cases,"deep sleep"which makes the battery unable to recharge at all.

2. Charging to 100% and leaving it plugged in overnight.

Although automatic power cut-off helps somewhat, leaving the charger connected for hours after reaching 100% keeps the battery under a continuous"high voltage"state throughout the night, which is a major cause of battery swelling and premature deterioration.

3. Using the phone heavily while charging.

"Heat"is the number one enemy of smartphones. Playing high-graphics games or streaming videos during charging doubles the device's temperature. This accumulated heat directly damages the chemical structure of the battery cells, causing irreversible harm.

4. Leaving the phone in high-temperature environments.

Besides charging, simply leaving the phone inside a car parked under the sun or in poorly ventilated spaces can damage the battery. Temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius are considered dangerous zones that rapidly reduce battery capacity.

5. Using "non-name brand" chargers without standards.

Cheap chargers or cables lacking international certification often deliver unstable power and lack surge protection. This directly harms both the motherboard and battery. It is recommended to use genuine or certified brand accessories (e.g., MFi certified) for the safety of both device and user.
