Apple's new phone model, the iPhone Ultra, expected to launch this September, may have its sales target cut to just 3 million units from the original 10 million. However, this figure still surpasses Samsung's foldable screen shipments.
The buzz around the foldable iPhone, likely to be marketed as the iPhone Ultra, is growing. It is forecasted that the foldable iPhone will have a first-year sales target of only 3 million units in 2026, down from an initial goal of 10 million units.
Interestingly, although the target has dropped from 10 million to 3 million units, this number remains higher than that of competitor Samsung, whose Galaxy Z Fold 7 has initial shipments of approximately 2.4 million units.
Regarding screen production, The Elec reports that Samsung Display, a Samsung subsidiary, has secured an exclusive contract to supply foldable display panels to Apple for at least three years. This agreement includes special conditions where Samsung requires order volume assurances in exchange for providing key components directly to its competitor.
However, the iPhone Ultra may not be ready for sale in September 2026 due to complex production issues. Nevertheless, credible sources like Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman confirm that the foldable iPhone remains on track for its planned September 2026 launch.
