Google has started testing a new search system that replaces traditional keyword searches with an AI chatbot conversation, enabling users to ask for information from both long videos and Shorts, enhancing competition in the AI Search arena.
YouTube has become a platform where Google is increasingly pushing Generative AI by launching a new feature called Ask YouTube, which transforms search from traditional keyword input to an AI chatbot format.
This feature is currently available exclusively to YouTube Premium members and is initially limited to users in the United States, who must enable it through Experimental Features.
Because it is an AI chatbot, the new YouTubecan handle complex questions, such as requesting the system to find videos about historical events or to summarizevarious points. The system willprocess and provide answersthat include long videos, YouTube Shorts, or summaries, similar to the AI Overviews feature.
Behind the Ask YouTube feature, it is expected that the Google Gemini model is tuned with YouTube’s vast video database and metadata, aiming to keep users on YouTube longer and help them find desired videos more easily rather than having to sift through huge amounts of videos by keyword search alone.
With the arrival of Ask YouTube, content creatorsmay need to focus more on content that AI can extract, whether from thumbnails or captions, in addition to titles, hashtags, or descriptions, following traditional SEO approaches.
