Apple Plans to End iOS 27 Updates for iPhone 11 Series and iPhone SE 2nd Generation

iOS 27, which will be unveiled for the first time at WWDC26, is very likely to exclude support for the iPhone 11 Series and the iPhone SE (2nd generation).

Between 8 and 12 June, Apple will hold its major developer event known as WWDC26. The highlight expected to be discussed is the arrival of the iOS 27 operating system.

So far, there are no reports detailing new features in iOS 27, but it is believed that there will be an overhaul of the Siri intelligent assistant, an interface redesign featuring a Liquid Glass style, and importantly, clarification on which older iPhone models will no longer be supported with iOS 27.

Information from Instant Digital, which has sources in the smartphone industry, leaked rumors about models that will not continue with iOS 27 on the Weibo platform. Four models were identified: iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, and iPhone SE (2nd generation).

Sources state that the minimum requirement for iOS 27 is an iPhone 12 or newer, and for the SE line, the minimum is iPhone SE 3rd generation or later.

Interestingly, if Instant Digital’s information is accurate, this would be the second year Apple has ended support for new OS updates on older iPhones following the annual major update. Last year, the iPhone XS was removed from the list of supported devices.

However, even older iPhones from iPhone 12 and earlier will likely not have access to all new features introduced in iOS 27, as flagship features like Apple Intelligence will be restricted to iPhones with higher hardware capabilities. That means only iPhone 15 Pro or newer models are expected to have access to these AI features.
