A technology research and consulting company reports a global smartphone market overview with shipments totaling 65.4 million units. In Southeast Asia, the market grew contrary to the overall trend.
Omdia, a technology research, analysis, and consulting firm, released its report on global smartphone shipments for the first quarter of 2026, stating that Samsung rose to first place with a 22 percent market share, mainly supported by strong sales of its flagship Galaxy S26 Series smartphones.
Apple ranks second with a 20 percent market share, followed by Xiaomi in third with 11 percent, Oppo at 10 percent, and Vivo at 7 percent.
The global smartphone market grew by 1 percent in the first quarter, despite challenges from supply chain issues and rising production costs. Samsung shipped a total of 65.4 million smartphones, driven mainly by demand for flagship models, especially pre-orders for the Galaxy S26 Series, which increased about 10 percent worldwide compared to the previous Galaxy S25 Series.
In Southeast Asia, Omdia's report states that Samsung holds the top market share at 21 percent with shipments of 4.6 million units, representing 4 percent growth compared to the same period last year.
This growth contrasts with the overall regional smartphone market, which contracted by 9 percent. The Galaxy S26 Series and mid-range Galaxy A Series were key drivers of Samsung's sales.
Oppo ranks second with a 20 percent market share and 4.2 million units shipped. Xiaomi is third with 3.7 million units and a 17 percent share, followed by Transsion with 3.4 million units and 16 percent market share, and Vivo in fifth place with a 9 percent share and 2.1 million units shipped.
