Samsung is being closely watched to see if it will add the Privacy Display feature to the Galaxy Z Fold 8, set to launch mid-year, aiming to provide top-level security on its large screen and attract premium business clients.
One of the most anticipated smartphones in the second half of the year is the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8. However, simply redesigning to make it thinner and adding a bigger battery may not suffice, as the most interesting feature Samsung currently holds is the Privacy Display technology—a privacy screen that prevents people nearby from peeking at the display.
The main reason is that the larger the screen, the greater the need for privacy protection. The Galaxy S26 Ultra has a 6.9-inch screen, but the Galaxy Z Fold 8 could reach up to 8 inches, with an outer screen of about 6.5 inches. Such a wide display area makes it easy for people nearby to see the content, even if they do not intentionally try to look.
A highlight of the Privacy Display system on the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is its ability to activate privacy only on specific screen areas, such as the notification bar. This function would be even more useful on the main screen of the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which is designed to support various multitasking operations.
Regarding engineering constraints, it is still unconfirmed whether the Privacy Display technology can function with a foldable screen structure without affecting durability and long-term wear. However, Samsung could choose to install this technology on the outer screen, which does not fold. This outer screen is typically where users check information most often.
Furthermore, considering the primary user base of the high-end Galaxy Z Fold series consists of businesspeople and professional workers, this feature would help protect the visibility of important documents or emails from outsiders.
Therefore, if Samsung incorporates the Privacy Display into the Galaxy Z Fold 8, it would be quite intriguing and strongly emphasize privacy as a key selling point.
