Due to chipset cost issues, Samsung has had to adjust its strategy for the Galaxy Z Flip 8 by using both its in-house Exynos chips and Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors instead of relying on just one.
In July 2026, Samsung will hold its major Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event, unveiling the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8.
Interestingly, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will not be released with just Exynos chips this time; Samsung will also offer the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset alongside its own house-brand processor.
The main reason Samsung is incorporating Qualcomm chips into the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is that the production cost of its own Exynos 2600 chip has increased significantly.
Looking back at Samsung's Galaxy Z foldable phones over several generations, the company traditionally used only Snapdragon chipsets. That changed with the Galaxy Z Flip 7 in 2025, when Samsung made a major shift to exclusively using Exynos chips worldwide, ending Snapdragon use in this lineup. However, Samsung may revert to its previous plan for the Galaxy Z Flip 8.
According to technology industry insider Lanzuk on the Naver platform, Samsung plans to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset alongside the Exynos 2600 in the Galaxy Z Flip 8. Another reason is that Qualcomm has offered Samsung an attractive pricing deal, prompting both companies to collaborate again on foldable phone chipsets.
This strategic shift is expected to result in Samsung selling the Galaxy Z Flip 8 with chipsets varying by region. Historically, the large U.S. market typically receives the Snapdragon version, while regions like Europe and Asia get the Exynos variant.
However, there is no definitive information or detailed confirmation yet, pending an official announcement from Samsung.
