Apple Unveils New Siri AI as a Standalone App, Enhances Apple Intelligence in iOS 27

Apple has partnered with Google to overhaul Siri's artificial intelligence, integrating AI into fundamental applications to better meet user needs and improve functionality.

At WWDC 2026, Apple revealed major upgrades to Apple Intelligence, beginning with an announcement of collaboration with Google Gemini, the launch of a redesigned Siri experience, and the enhancement of various applications with AI capabilities.

Apple stated that the system is powered by a second-generation on-device processing model featuring personal context awareness, broad real-world data understanding, and cross-application commands under the name Siri AI. This unlocks new potential through Apple Intelligence, transforming Siri into a more capable assistant with a dedicated separate app.

Siri has been redesigned from its previous colorful edge effects to a dark-themed interface integrated with Dynamic Island. Users can access Siri on iOS by swiping down from Dynamic Island.

Moreover, Siri's voice can now be finely customized, including speech rhythm and emotional expression. This new system extends to features like text dictation and usage within CarPlay and wireless headphones.

Siri AI includes the ability to recognize on-screen content; a demonstration showed it retrieving location information from an Instagram post and applying contact data without requiring detailed commands.

For cross-device functionality, on Mac computers, Siri will be integrated with Spotlight, featuring a monochrome menu bar icon and a standalone app. All conversations will privately sync via iCloud.

Additionally, the iOS 27 camera app includes a dedicated Siri mode, enabling users to scan a restaurant bill or point at a poster to quickly add events to their calendar.

Apple Intelligence integration with core apps begins with Safari, which now automatically groups tabs by topic and offers notifications to track webpage changes through natural language commands.

The password app allows multiple passwords to be updated simultaneously with one click. Messaging and mail apps can analyze chat context to suggest creating reminders, notes, or searching for mentioned photos.

Apple also introduced a new photo editing app that shifts from generating low-quality AI images to using AI to enhance users’ own photos, such as creating backgrounds or contact list posters.

Meanwhile, the Photos app has been upgraded with improved tools for seamless removal of unwanted elements, AI-driven edge expansion, and re-composition of images. These tools work with all photos, not just those taken with Apple smartphones.

Most Apple Intelligence features will be available on devices that already support Apple Intelligence, but some advanced features will be limited to newer hardware. Additionally, Siri AI will have a daily usage quota, with iCloud+ subscribers receiving increased access.

Siri AI will enter beta testing for developers starting today and become available to the general public later this year, initially supporting English only.
