At the APAC Product Innovation Showcase 2026, Netflix unveiled its platform development plans, transitioning from a content provider to a data-driven technology company.

A key software development highlight is the major redesign of the smartphone app interface. Netflix introduced "Clips," a new feature featuring vertical video technology that offers a fast-response video feed. This system uses algorithm processing to showcase short highlights tailored to each user's interests.

Netflix describes this feature as designed to reduce content search time, with a newly arranged menu layout optimized for smartphones. Users can save or play videos instantly with a single tap. This approach has already launched in several countries.

Eugene Yeo, Senior Director of Product Management for the Asia-Pacific region, revealed that Netflix has developed an intelligent content curation system working alongside deep data categorization. By launching a content hub based on favorite books, the AI analyzes and segments readers into nine categories according to interest profiles, enabling the system to serve book-based adapted content precisely tailored to individual users.

Meanwhile, on cybersecurity, Netflix has enhanced parental control features for stricter security. These include PIN password protection for personal profiles, adjustable content suitability settings, the ability to block access to specific series titles, and the retrieval of viewing history log files.
