Sources in the Chinese supply chain reveal that production has entered a critical stage. The iPhone Ultra will not be delayed, but initial quantities will be limited.
The iPhone Ultra, Apple's first foldable iPhone, is likely to launch as originally scheduled this September after multiple production sources denied earlier rumors of delays. However, the possibility remains that the initial batch may be limited in quantity.
Earlier reports predicted a significant delay in the foldable iPhone's launch, possibly postponed until early next year. However, more recent consensus among supply chain sources suggests that if any delay occurs, it would be only brief.
Chinese news agency Cailexpress reported, citing several Chinese supplier sources, that production of the iPhone Ultra is proceeding on schedule for a September launch. This aligns with earlier reports indicating increasing agreement among production sources on this timeline.
In early July, rumors circulated that Apple's foldable iPhone launch might be postponed due to an analyst's forecast of production constraints limiting deliveries to between 500,000 and 1,000,000 units in early Q3.
However, Cailexpress reporters contacted several companies in Apple's production chain for confirmation. Industry sources stated that the design and manufacturing process for this foldable phone has reached full production capacity and affirmed no changes to the September delivery schedule. They denied rumors of a delayed launch and noted no signs of any production hold-ups, indicating that September deliveries should proceed without issue.
Nevertheless, the absence of launch delays does not mean the most expensive iPhone Ultra will be available in "sufficient" quantities to meet demand. Ming-Chi Kuo, a longtime Apple analyst, noted that initial supply may not meet early demand, potentially causing some customers to wait 4-6 weeks or longer for delivery.
