At the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event next week, it is expected to be the first stage for unveiling a new premium foldable smartphone, introducing the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra model.
As widely known, Samsung will hold its Galaxy Unpacked event in London, United Kingdom, on 22 July, where the highlight will be the new foldable smartphone.
At this mid-year 2026 Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung will launch the new Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, marking the first time the company has added the "Ultra" label.Alongside this, there is also a new model name featuring the word "Wide" in the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide.
Last year, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 featured a 6.5-inch outer screen and an 8-inch inner screen when unfolded, and all signs indicate Samsung will keep similar sizes for the Z Fold 8 Ultra.
A key highlight of last year's Z Fold 7 was its exceptional thinness for a foldable phone, measuring just 8.9 millimeters thick when folded and 4.2 millimeters when unfolded, weighing only 215 grams. It remains unclear if the Z Fold 8 Ultra will be thinner, but Korean media reports suggest the weight might drop to 200 grams. If true, this would be exciting, as the previous model’s slim and light design was a major factor setting it apart from most competitors in the market.
Regarding internal specs, details are still limited, but the battery is expected to increase from 4,400 mAh to 5,000 mAh, which is very positive since battery life was a weak point of the Z Fold 7.
Next is the chipset, which is likely to be Qualcomm’s Snapdragon, the same used in the Galaxy S26 series earlier this year.
Finally, on the camera front, Samsung may upgrade the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra’s rear camera system. The Z Fold 7 had a 200-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide, and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens. If this holds, Samsung will keep the 200-megapixel main camera but upgrade the ultra-wide from 12 to 50 megapixels.
Additionally, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is likely to introduce new AI-powered photo editing features.
