Samsung's foldable phone launch at Galaxy Unpacked 2026 is anticipated to have the new wide-screen Galaxy Z Fold 8 model lead production volume, surpassing both the Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8.
South Korea's ETNews reported that for Samsung's foldable phone release in the second half of the year, production focus will be on the new Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide model, aiming for an initial production run of 2.8 million units, exceeding both the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 8.
According to ETNews figures, Samsung is targeting and expecting strong sales from the newly designed, wider model that is priced lower than the high-end Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, although some device specifications will be scaled back.
For other models, Samsung plans production volumes of 2 million units for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and 1.5 million units for the Galaxy Z Flip 8.
These figures represent a clear strategic shift for Samsung, as previously they had placed more emphasis and importance on the “Flip” model compared to the “Fold” model. However, the current production targets indicate Samsung is now focusing primarily on the wide-screen Fold model.
Overall, Samsung's foldable smartphone production capacity this year is expected to be similar to previous years, totaling approximately 5.5 to 6 million units, while last year the popularity of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 pushed production beyond 6 million units.
The new wide-screen Galaxy Z Fold 8, along with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8, will be unveiled on 22 July in London, United Kingdom, under the theme "A New Shape Unfolds." The event will be livestreamed on various Samsung channels, including YouTube, starting at 8 PM Thailand time.
