SamsungSamsung has launched the all-new Galaxy Z Fold8, a foldable smartphone with a new wider form factor. Its highlight is the main display's 4:3 aspect ratio when unfolded, and it weighs 201 grams, which Samsung claims is the lightest in the Galaxy Z Fold lineup.
A key difference between the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 and the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra lies in the device's shape. When folded, the outer screen has a 10:16 ratio, offering a feel similar to a regular smartphone. When unfolded, the main screen's 4:3 ratio resembles a small tablet rather than the previous tall foldable screen, making it ideal for watching videos, reading, and gaming. The screen also adjusts its aspect ratio with device rotation for a more natural reading experience.
The main screen is a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X with QXGA+ resolution (1,848 x 2,448 pixels) at 403ppi and an adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120Hz. The outer screen is 5.5 inches with WUXGA+ resolution (1,248 x 1,972 pixels) at 428ppi and also supports a 1-120Hz refresh rate. The main display reaches up to 3,000 nits brightness, working with Vision Booster and a low-reflection screen coating to reduce glare.
Samsung incorporates Flex Titanium screen technology, combining a titanium alloy film with a redesigned titanium plate. This makes the device thinner while maintaining resistance to pressure and impacts, reduces the visibility of screen creases over time, and balances the hinge mechanism, screen tension, and magnetic forces when unfolding.
The device measures 81.9 x 123.9 x 9.7 mm when folded and 161.4 x 123.9 x 4.5 mm when unfolded, weighs 201 grams, and offers IP48 water and dust resistance.
The rear camera setup includes two 50-megapixel sensors: a wide-angle camera with an f/1.8 aperture, optical image stabilization, and 2x optical zoom, and an ultra-wide 50-megapixel camera with an f/1.9 aperture and a 120-degree field of view. Both the outer and main front cameras have 10-megapixel resolution and support Dual Recording, which captures video simultaneously from front and rear cameras, and My FanCam, which automatically detects and tracks a selected face, adjusting video framing. My FanCam requires login with a Samsung account.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy. Memory and storage options include 12/256GB, 12/512GB, and 16GB/1TB variants.
It has a dual battery with a typical capacity of 4,800mAh and supports wired charging up to 63 percent in 30 minutes using a 45W adapter sold separately, as well as 20W fast wireless charging. The device runs Android 17 with One UI 9 interface and supports 5G, LTE, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth v6.0.
Regarding AI features, the Galaxy Z Fold8 includes the same suite across the lineup: Galaxy AI, collaboration with Google's Gemini Intelligence, Now Brief, Now Nudge, and Gemini Notebook, which consolidates notes, photos, voice recordings, and documents into one workspace. The large screen supports split-screen multitasking with chat alongside viewing other content.
