Claude's new AI model has been launched under the name Opus 5, featuring versatile thinking abilities and performance close to that of Fable 5.
Anthropic has introduced the latest Claude AI model, Claude Opus 5, which is now immediately available across all platforms.
Anthropic stated that Opus 5 is a versatile and proactive model, offering intelligence close to Fable 5, Anthropic’s most powerful model currently, but at only half the price.
This launch upgrades the Opus series from version 4.8 to 5, occurring about two months after the previous Opus upgrade, consistent with Anthropic’s usual update schedule.
Currently, Anthropic offers multiple AI models under the Claude name, with three main versions: Haiku, the smallest and least expensive; Sonnet, the mid-sized and moderately priced; and Opus, the largest and most expensive of the three.
Anthropic describes Opus 5 as a versatile, proactive model delivering intelligence close to the leading Claude Fable 5, but at half the cost. Fable 5 is a version of Mythos enhanced with safety measures and made publicly available after Anthropic had previously delayed its release due to cybersecurity concerns. Fable 5 remains Anthropic’s most capable model to date.
Anthropic said Opus 5 is designed for everyday use, offering greater efficiency than other models, and is designated as the new default model on Claude Max as well as the most powerful model on Claude Pro.
Regarding pricing and availability, Anthropic confirmed that Claude Opus 5 is available on all platforms starting today, priced at $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens, matching the rates of Opus 4.8.
