The Galaxy Z Fold8 captured 70 percent of preorder sales, enabling foldable phone sales to surpassflagship modelssuch as the Galaxy S Series in Samsung’s home country, South Korea.
Samsung set a new record in South Korea as the three newly launched flagship foldable models in the Galaxy Z8 series—Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip8—combined to achieve 1.44 million preorders, surpassing the previous record of 1.38 million units set by the Galaxy Note10 and Note10+.
What makes this figure even more notable is the timeframe: the Note10’s record was achieved over an 11-day preorder period, whereas the Galaxy Z Series reached its total in just six days.
Looking back at previous models for comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5 set the highest preorder record for foldables at 1.02 million units. Later, the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 saw the series’ lowest preorder numbers at 910,000 units, before the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 rebounded with a new foldable record of 1.04 million units within one week from 15 to 21 July.
However, what the Galaxy Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra, and Z Flip8 have achieved is not only a record for foldable phones but the highest preorder total for the entire Galaxy lineup since the Note series was discontinued in 2020, leaving the foldable Z series as the flagship from mid-year alongside the Galaxy S Series earlier in the year.
Regarding the Galaxy S Series, particularly the Galaxy S26, it set its highest preorder record of 1.35 million units earlier this year during a seven-day preorder period. This marks a significant shift, as it is the first time Samsung’s flagship foldable phones have surpassed the S Series in preorder numbers, compared to last year when the Galaxy Z7 reached 1.04 million units, lagging behind the Galaxy S25’s 1.3 million.
The record preorder numbers are largely driven by the Galaxy Z Fold8, which introduced a wide foldable screen design for the first time. This model alone accounts for 70 percent of all preorders and is especially popular among customers aged 30 and under as well as female buyers, with these two groups together making up half of all Galaxy Z Fold8 purchasers.
Beyond South Korea, the Galaxy Z8 series has also started strong in other markets. In India, it achieved 271,000 preorders in three days, whereas the 2025 Galaxy Z foldable phones previously took 15 days to reach similar numbers.
