Apple has updated its obsolete products list to include the iPhone X and the 15-inch MacBook Pro model released in 2018. Obsolete products are those discontinued for more than seven years.
Apple's support website has added products classified as obsolete, including the iPhone X launched in 2017 and the 15-inch MacBook Pro released in 2018.
Once a product is designated obsolete, Apple ends all hardware repair services, and authorized service centers will no longer have access to replacement parts for these devices.
According to Apple's criteria, obsolete products are those discontinued for over seven years, although the official declaration is subject to Apple's discretion.
Meanwhile, vintage products are those discontinued for more than five years but less than seven years, and repairs can continue as long as parts remain in stock.
However, the MacBook Pro line has slightly different conditions; its batteries may still be replaced up to 10 years after discontinuation, depending on parts availability.
The iPhone X, launched in late 2017, marked the 10th anniversary of the iPhone. It was the first model with an OLED screen, Face ID facial recognition, no home button, a notch at the top, and full-screen use.
For general users, the obsolete classification does not mean the device will stop working. The main impact is that hardware repairs will no longer be supported by Apple or authorized centers, leaving independent repair shops as the alternative.
