iPhone 18 Pro Specs Revealed: Mechanical Aperture Camera, Longer Battery Life, Cooler Operation

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg updates the specifications for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, highlighting the mechanical aperture camera used to adjust light and control depth of field.

Mark Gurman, Apple reporter for Bloomberg, published a new report on 4 September detailing the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max that Apple plans to unveil at the event on 9 September 2026. The most notable feature is the mechanical aperture camera, which the report says allows precise light adjustment and hardware-level control of depth of field. Additionally, there are upgrades to the battery, cooling system, and Apple’s self-developed modem.

Gurman clearly explained the camera’s capabilities, stating it adjusts the amount of light entering the sensor in detail and controls the image’s depth of field at the hardware level, unlike the current software-simulated Portrait mode.

The report states this feature will appear on the iPhone 18 Pro Max and is likely to be included on the iPhone 18 Pro as well.

Regarding the battery and cooling, the new report says the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will offer improved battery life along with an enhanced vapor chamber designed to prevent overheating issues.

Another point discussed is the C2 modem developed by Apple, which Gurman says will be included with the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, replacing Qualcomm’s modems.

The Apple Event launch is scheduled for Wednesday, 9 September 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time, which corresponds to midnight on 10 September 2026 in Thailand.
