At this Apple Event, Apple is launching only three iPhone models, holding back the iPhone Air 2 and the standard iPhone 18 for an early next year debut, which is expected to include the iPhone 18e.
Apple is preparing to launch three new iPhone models at the Surprise and Shine Apple Event, an occasion eagerly anticipated by Apple fans. This time, Apple will release the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the iPhone Ultra, the company's first foldable phone.
Unlike previous years, Apple will not introduce the standard iPhone 18 or the slim iPhone Air 2 at this event; their launch is tentatively scheduled for early 2027.
Regarding the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, which succeedthe iPhone 17 Pro,multiple reports agree they will feature the A20 Pro chip built on a 2-nanometer architecture, along with Apple's own modem called the Apple C2.
Additionally, the rear camera system will introduce a mechanically adjustable variable aperture for the first time, allowing precise control of light entering the sensor based on actual lighting conditions, rather than relying solely on software adjustments.
Design-wise, reports indicate that the Dynamic Island at the top of the device will be smaller, reducing its width from about 20.7 millimeters to approximately 13.5 millimeters—a decrease of around 35 percent in width.
A new flagship color is planned: a deep wine-red tone currently referred to as Dark Cherry Red, distinct from the bright Product Red variant.
There are also reports of improved battery life, especially on the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and a simplification of the Camera Control buttons for easier use.
Next is the iPhone Ultra, Apple’s first foldable smartphone, setting a new price tier above the iPhone 18 Pro Max, with most reports estimating a starting price in the U.S.around $2,000or higher.
The device folds like a wide book, featuring a 5.5-inch external screen and about a 7.8-inch internal display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, giving a feel similar to an iPad mini when opened. The chassis is expected to combine titanium and aluminum, with Liquid metal hinges and a vapor chamber cooling system, all within a slim 4.5-millimeter thickness when unfolded.
The iPhone Ultra will have only two rear cameras: a main and an ultra-wide lens, omitting the telephoto lens. It has two front cameras, one for each display side, and uses Touch ID on the side button instead of Face ID, due to insufficient space for the TrueDepth sensor array in such a slim device.
Performance is expected to be similar to the iPhone 18 Pro, utilizing the same A20 Pro chip and C2 modem. Apple will likely emphasize software enhancements, with iOS 27 supporting side-by-side app usage and horizontal layouts adapting to the device’s shape.
So far, there is no clear explanation whether the delay of the iPhone 18 and iPhone Air 2 launch is a strategic decision by Apple or due to a memory supply crisis.
Nevertheless, consumers will face a launch event focusing solely on "premium-priced" products in the upcoming Apple Event.
Additionally, the keynote will be presented by John Ternus, who officially became Apple's new CEO on 1 September 2026, replacing Tim Cook.
