The mobile case retailer CASETiFY made a major mistake by openly revealing that Apple's foldable phone is named iPhone Duo, not iPhone Ultra as previously rumored.
Before the Apple Event began, internet users discovered that CASETiFY, a well-known Hong Kong-based case seller, had leaked an advertisement for a foldable Apple phone case clearly named iPhone Duo, accompanied by a promotional message."Ready for the iPhone Duo?"They also invited interested customers to sign up for pre-orders of"Apple's first foldable device.
This sparked speculation that the first foldable iPhone might use the commercial name iPhone Duo instead of the long-rumored iPhone Ultra.
However, after this leak spread widely, CASETiFY changed the name from"iPhone Duo Case"to"iPhone Ultra Case"and then subsequently removed the page from their website.
Currently, the iPhone Duo Case webpage leads to a Page Not Found, so it is unclear whether CASETiFY accidentally revealed the real name obtained from the supply chain or simply used a temporary name during web preparation based on trending speculation.
The name iPhone Duo did not originate with CASETiFY but appeared in a MacRumors report on 4 Sep, followed by a post on X by the user Majin Bu claiming that according to his sources, Apple's commercial name is iPhone Duo, not iPhone Ultra.
It has been noted that case manufacturers should not be considered reliable sources for product names since they usually only receive size and draft outlines from the supply chain for mold making, not official marketing names which Apple keeps secret until launch. Accessory makers commonly use trending names when preparing webpages in advance.
Historically, Apple has used the 'Duo' name in some products, such as the PowerBook Duo laptops in the 1990s and the MagSafe Duo Charger in the early 2020s.
