Apple has launched the iPhone Duo. It is the company's first foldable smartphone in history, unveiled at the Apple Event.The event was themed "Surprise and Shine."In Cupertino on 9 September 2026, the starting price in Thailand is 79,900 baht for the 256GB model, up to 127,900 baht for the 2TB version. Pre-orders open on 16 October 2026, with official sales from 23 October 2026—about a month later than the iPhone 18 Pro launch on 18 September.
This launch marks Apple's entry into the foldable smartphone market, following competitors like Samsung and Huawei who have been in this space for years. It is also the first major product launch under new CEO John Ternus, who succeeded Tim Cook on 1 September 2026.
The iPhone Duo folds like a book, with an external 5.4-inch screen offering about 90 percent of the display area of the iPhone 18 Pro. When unfolded, the internal screen measures 7.6 inches—Apple's largest iPhone display ever. When opened, the device is also the thinnest iPhone the company has produced.
A major difference from other iPhones is the authentication system: the iPhone Duo uses a fingerprint sensor embedded in the side button instead of the Face ID facial recognition found on current iPhones. The body is made from Grade 5 titanium with Ceramic Shield glass on both front and back, featuring a Nano-texture screen that reduces glare.
The iPhone Duo uses the same A20 Pro chip as the iPhone 18 Pro, equipped with vapor chamber cooling and Apple's self-developed C2 modem supporting 5G mmWave. Its dual-cell battery architecture allows up to 31 hours of video playback on the internal screen, up to 44 hours on the external screen, and about 24 hours of mixed use across both screens. It also supports fast charging.
On the software side, Apple has optimized iOS to support the large screen and enable multitasking similar to the iPad.
New features include Smart Take, Photographic Styles with enhanced texture control, and a new AI-powered Siri version.
The rear camera system is a 48MP Dual Fusion setup with a main lens and an ultrawide lens, offering 2x optical zoom but no separate telephoto lens. The main camera supports 4K video at 120fps in Dolby Vision. The front camera is a 12MP under-display camera on the internal screen, enabling a full-screen display. Users can also take selfies with the rear camera while previewing on the external screen. The Smart Take feature uses on-device AI to automatically capture the photo when everyone in the frame is ready.
Other details revealed by Apple include a hinge composed of over 100 specialized parts, with the hinge frame and cover made from polished Grade 5 titanium.
The device can be unlocked using an Apple Watch in addition to the fingerprint sensor, and can be used half-folded on a table.
Storage options range from 256GB to 2TB, with two color choices: Star White and Night Sky Blue.
Pre-orders begin on 16 October at 19:00, with official availability starting 23 October.
