Apple has unveiled the iPhone Duo. It is the company's first foldable smartphone in history, introduced at the Apple Event.The event was themed "Surprise and Shine."In Cupertino on 9 September 2026, Apple announced the iPhone Duo's price in Thailand starting at 79,900 baht for the 256GB version up to 127,900 baht for the 2TB model. Pre-orders begin 16 October 2026, with official sales starting 23 October 2026—about a month later than the iPhone 18 Pro's release on 18 September.
This launch marks Apple's entry into the foldable smartphone market, following competitors like Samsung and Huawei who have been active for years. It is also the first major product release under new CEO John Ternus, who took over from Tim Cook on 1 September 2026.
The iPhone Duo folds like a book, with an outer 5.4-inch screen that offers about 90 percent of the display area of the iPhone 18 Pro. When unfolded, the inner screen measures 7.6 inches, which Apple says is the largest display ever on an iPhone. The unfolded device is also the thinnest iPhone Apple has ever produced.
A major distinction from other iPhones is the authentication system: the iPhone Duo uses a fingerprint sensor embedded in the side button instead of Face ID, which is standard on current iPhones. The chassis is made from Grade 5 titanium with Ceramic Shield glass on both front and back, featuring a Nano-texture display that reduces glare.
The iPhone Duo is powered by the A20 Pro chip—the same as in the iPhone 18 Pro—along with a vapor chamber cooling system and Apple's own C2 modem supporting mmWave 5G. The battery uses a dual-cell architecture working together; Apple states it can play video up to 31 hours on the inner screen, 44 hours on the outer screen, and about 24 hours of combined use with both screens equally. It also supports fast charging.
On the software side, Apple has revamped iOS to optimize for the large screen, including multitasking features similar to those on iPad.
New features include Smart Take, Photographic Styles which enhance image texture control, and a new AI-powered version of Siri.
The rear camera system is a 48MP Dual Fusion setup with a main lens and an ultrawide lens, offering 2x optical zoom but no separate telephoto lens. The main camera supports 4K video at 120fps in Dolby Vision. The front camera is 12MP with Center Stage support and is hidden under the inner screen for full-display experience. Users can also take selfies using the rear camera while previewing on the outer screen. The Smart Take feature uses on-device AI to automatically capture a photo when everyone in the frame is ready.
Additional details from Apple include the hinge being assembled from over 100 specialized parts, with the hinge frame and cover made of polished Grade 5 titanium.
The device can also be unlocked via Apple Watch besides the fingerprint sensor and can be used folded halfway while resting on a table.
Storage options range from 256GB to 2TB, available in Star White and Night Sky blue.
Pre-orders start on 16 October at 7:00 PM, with official release on 23 October.
