A South Korean media report stated that Galaxy Z Fold8 sales rose in the week following the iPhone Duo launch but did not disclose exact sales figures. Industry sources believe the increase reflects pent-up demand, with some customers holding off to see what Apple would release before choosing a foldable smartphone.
A key factor is price: the Galaxy Z Fold8 starts at 2.28 million won in South Korea, while the iPhone Duo with comparable specs is reported to be priced around 3.29 million won, a gap of over 1 million won.
Besides price,the Galaxy Z Fold8is also thinner and lighter than the iPhone Duo, both featuring similarly wide screen designs. Another consideration is availability: the Galaxy Z Fold8 is already on sale, whereas the iPhone Duo will launch in South Korea in October 2026. This has led some customers to decide whether to wait or not, and which brand to choose.
The iPhone Duo marks Apple's first foray into the foldable smartphone market, featuring a design resembling a passport. Technology experts assess that Apple's entry could accelerate foldable phones becoming mainstream faster.
However, South Korean media noted it is too early to conclude that Samsung will have a long-term advantage due to Apple's entry. The data reflects only one week in one country, and the iPhone Duo has yet to reach a wide consumer base.
