After Apple released the iOS 27 update earlier this week, featuring the main new function Apple Intelligence, some iPhone users need to prepare considerably more free space to support this feature.
Apple's new support document states that the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air require up to 14GB of storage to fully use the AI features, while other supported iPhone models still require a maximum of 8GB as before.
Regarding the newly launched devices, the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Duo also require 14GB of storage.
The reason the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone Air, iPhone 18 Pro, and iPhone Duo need nearly double the storage is because these newer models have advanced AI capabilities, such as Siri AI voice modulation to express emotions and control speech timing, and more accurate voice typing—both of which rely on on-device AI models with higher processing power, resulting in increased storage requirements.
Apple Intelligence was first introduced in 2024 but gained little popularity until Apple revamped it to be more robust in iOS 27, especially the new version of Siri AI powered by Apple Intelligence.
However, as of now, Apple Intelligence on iOS 27 does not support Thai. The supported languages include English, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, and several others. Users must set both the device and Siri languages to the same supported language to use the feature.
