originOS 7, vivo's new interface version, launches applications faster, supports seamless use across phones and computers, and features a jelly-like responsive theme that springs to touch.
vivo has released its new interface update, originOS 7, which runs on the Android 17 operating system. Currently, the first devices to feature this new interface are the vivo X500 Series, including the vivo X500, X500 Pro, and X500 Pro Max.
Users in Thailand participating in the Preview Program will also have the opportunity to try this new interface version.
At the vivo X500 Series launch event in Shanghai, a standout feature of originOS 7 is the Origin Workbench, which allows users to run five applications simultaneously—one main app plus four smaller windows—marking a significant upgrade.
A product executive for vivo's X500 Series explained at the launch that Chinese smartphone users affectionately call vivo's originOS the 'Orange OS.' This version is nicknamed 'Jelly Orange' because it emphasizes smooth theme animations that turn user photos into liquid-like surfaces. When tapped or shaken, images ripple, compress, and bounce back like jelly. The system also uses gyro sensors to create dynamic lighting and shadows on wallpapers based on the device's tilt angle.
Simultaneously, the Fluid Motion feature makes screen elements stretch, bounce, and blend according to the speed and direction of finger movements. For example, sliders in the gallery app resemble transparent jelly blobs that change color with the background, and magnifiers distort text like water droplets. vivo stated at the Shanghai X500 launch that these animations cover over 200 usage scenarios and improve responsiveness in more than 200 fluidity-related areas.
Regarding performance, originOS 7 introduces a new Origin Smooth Engine that redesigns graphics processing, memory management, and system task scheduling.
vivoreported that app launch speeds are 10% faster, screen switching is 11% quicker, and image rendering efficiency has improved by 14.4% compared to the previous version.
Additionally, originOS 7 offers enhanced integration with Apple devices, such as Apple Watch for notifications and workout data syncing with the Origin Health app, battery level monitoring of AirPods via Origin Island, and support for Spatial Audio. The vivo File Manager app can also access iCloud files directly.
The vivo Office Kit continues to connect phones with iPads, Macs, and Windows computers as before.
For screen customization, vivo has added the Pet Pals feature, where virtual pets respond to device movements and indicate charging status or music playback.
At the vivo X500 Series launch, vivo announced six free AI pet themes and a paid service allowing users to upload their own pets for AI to create 3D models. There is also StickIt, a collage tool for images and Live Photos usable on the lock screen, home screen, and Always-On Display.
The vivo X500 series is the first smartphone line to come preinstalled with the originOS 7 interface and the Android 17 operating system.
