Apple has revealed the prices for replacing the foldable screen coating layer and repairing the inner screen, while prices for Thailand have not yet been announced.
The iPhone Duo, Apple's first foldable smartphone, features a replaceable coating layer on the inner screen. AppleCare users will pay $19 (about 640 baht) for replacing this coating and $99 (about 3,300 baht) for repairing the entire inner screen panel.
Other AppleCare service fees include $29 (about 980 baht) for front screen or back glass repair, $99 (about 3,300 baht) for other accidental damages, and $149 (about 5,000 baht) for device replacement in case of theft or loss, making the iPhone Duo possibly the most complex and expensive iPhone ever.
Replacing the coating layer through AppleCare requires taking the device to an Apple-authorized service center or provider. It remains unclear whether users will be able to replace the coating themselves until tests determine how difficult it is to remove and apply the new layer.
If the coating layer can be removed easily, it might open the door for third-party manufacturers to produce alternative coatings, such as textured surfaces for Apple Pencil use, privacy filters, or more durable glossy finishes. However, the iPhone Duo's design includes a thick hinge mechanism and Apple's coating material is not a typical protective film, so operating the device without the coating is likely not feasible.
Using coatings from other manufacturers could damage the device and potentially void the warranty and AppleCare coverage. Therefore, it is advisable to wait for test results before attempting any self-replacement.
The iPhone Duo will be available for pre-order starting 16 October at 7:00 PM, with sales beginning 23 October, priced from 79,900 baht.
