Apple Launches First MacBook Pro with Touchscreen and Dynamic Island

Apple has introduced the MacBook Pro with a new design featuring its first touchscreen display, marking a reversal from Apple’s nearly two-decade-long refusal to include touchscreens in Mac computers.

The latest late-2026 MacBook Pro is also the first Mac to use an OLED screen and includes the Dynamic Island — a top-screen strip for notifications and controls, similar to that on the iPhone.

The new MacBook Pro is available in two sizes, 14 inches and 16 inches, powered by M5 Pro or M5 Max chips. Despite adding a touchscreen, the device is thinner and lighter than before, with the 14-inch model weighing about 1.36 kilograms and the 16-inch model about 1.81 kilograms. Apple states the battery life can last up to 24 hours.

Apple calls the new display PROLED XDR and has updated the macOS interface to support touch input, allowing users to tap, swipe, and pinch with two fingers to zoom. Many existing apps are immediately compatible with touch controls.

This MacBook Pro launch marks a major shift from Apple’s longstanding philosophy. Steve Jobs had previously criticized touchscreen laptops as ergonomically poor.

Tim Cook once compared this approach to combining a laptop with a tablet as akin to merging a refrigerator with a toaster. In 2016, Jony Ive, then head of design, said a touchscreen Mac was pointless, though that same year Apple experimented with the Touch Bar, a touch strip above the keyboard, which was later discontinued.

In Thailand, the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR display is priced starting at 104,900 baht for the 14-inch model and 124,900 baht for the 16-inch model, available in two colors: Space Black and Silver.
