Galaxy S27 Ultra Chip Battle Continues, No Sign of Exynos 2700 Use in Europe, Uncertain in South Korea

The choice of chipset for the Galaxy S27 Ultra remains undecided, with the situation fluctuating between the Exynos 2700 and Qualcomm's chips. Attention is focused on the year-end period, which is when the Galaxy S27 is scheduled to enter production.

According to Ice Universe, the decision between the Exynos 2700 and Qualcomm chips has not yet been finalized, and currently there is no clarity on which chip will be used in each region.

GSMArena assessed the situation and suggested that Galaxy S27 Ultra customers in Europe will likely receive Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip, while in Samsung's home country, South Korea, both options—Qualcomm and Samsung's Exynos—are possible.

The chipset plans for the Galaxy S27 Ultra have changed several times. In July, reports indicated the Ultra would use Snapdragon chips worldwide, but by September Samsung had ordered motherboards for the Exynos 2700 model while simultaneously developing the Snapdragon chip for the Ultra.

Then on 2 October, The Elec reported that Samsung had started mass production of the Exynos 2700, increasing output by over 10% compared to the previous model, setting quantities for the Galaxy S27, S27+, and S27 Pro, but the decision for the Galaxy S27 Ultra remained pending.

In mid-October, Seoul Economic Daily reported that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 overheated and suffered performance drops during Samsung's testing, but Qualcomm's Chief Marketing Officer Don McGuire denied these claims, stating the chip has no systemic overheating issues.

Samsung stated in its Q3 earnings call on 29 October that the Exynos 2700 shows improved AI and gaming performance and that its development and production are proceeding smoothly, but it has not confirmed whether this chip will be used in the Galaxy S27 Ultra.

If the Galaxy S27 Ultra does use the Exynos chip, it would be the first Ultra model since the Galaxy S22 Ultra in 2022 to feature a Samsung-made chip. Reports indicate that the Galaxy S27, S27+, and S27 Pro will use Exynos 2700 in South Korea and Europe, and Snapdragon in the US and China.

Production is expected to begin at the end of the year, with the earliest launch in February and the latest by March 2027. This means Samsung must quickly finalize its chipset decision soon to meet these schedules.
