The Nakhon Sawan Chinese New Year Festival 2026 is held annually from late January through February, following the lunar New Year calendar. This year it runs from 10 to 21 February 2026, lasting 12 days and nights. Highlights include parades, Chinese cultural performances, and traditional worship rituals to bring good luck.
Traditionally, the festival features both day and night processions. In 2026, the night procession (Chiu Sa) will take place on Thursday, 19 February, and the day procession (Chiu Si) on Friday, 20 February 2026.
The festival, or the Pak Nam Pho Lord and Lady Procession tradition, began after a cholera epidemic struck Thailand, including Pak Nam Pho. At that time, medical knowledge was limited, so locals turned to sacred spirits, inviting the Lord and Lady deities to reside in a shrine to ward off the disease.
Villagers came to pay respects and pray, and soon the disease subsided. Since then, the Lord and Lady figures have been paraded around the town to allow people to worship and seek blessings to ward off illness. This tradition continues to the present day.
