Origins of the Nakhon Sawan Chinese New Year Festival

The festival, or the Pak Nam Pho Lord and Lady Procession tradition, began after a cholera epidemic struck Thailand, including Pak Nam Pho. At that time, medical knowledge was limited, so locals turned to sacred spirits, inviting the Lord and Lady deities to reside in a shrine to ward off the disease.

Villagers came to pay respects and pray, and soon the disease subsided. Since then, the Lord and Lady figures have been paraded around the town to allow people to worship and seek blessings to ward off illness. This tradition continues to the present day.
