"Color" may not be just what we see but the "pulse" that nourishes lifestyles and connects people. If you are captivated by the charm of old neighborhoods, you are invited to stroll and enjoy the art in Mik Worawil's first solo photography exhibition.Soncharoen, a marketing strategistand freelance photographer, presents CHROMATIC: A Journey Through Neighborhood Color, held in collaboration with TAY Songwat and the WALKK: Bangkok Re-Birth project.
This exhibition takes everyone to experience the vibrant activity of three important central Bangkok trading districts: Songwat, Pak Khlong Market, and Pahurat.
These areas are rich in cultural fusion, commerce, and the daily rhythms of vendors working in harmony. The photographs serve as architectural and social records, using "color" as a medium to vividly reflect the energy and identity of these places.
What makes this exhibition compelling is its deeply rooted beginning. Mik Soncharoen recalls, "Back in 2003, I created the photo book 'Shopping on Foot' as a university project. At that time, I documented street trade in Yaowarat, Sampeng, and Pahurat using 35mm reversal film and cross-processing techniques to enhance the colors."
"Then, 23 years later, I decided to return to the same places to explore changes in both landscape and people, who continue to shape the neighborhoods' lively identities."
This return is like overlaying past memories with the present to show how time has transformed these old city districts.
To enrich the viewing experience, TAY Songwat café has crafted a special menu for this event called the Chromatic Collection Set. This set includes three styles of drinks inspired by the neighborhoods' colors: rose milk tea, butterfly pea mint tea, and a special cold brew coffee.
Each drink is served with the café's signature egg snacks, and exclusively, those who order this set will receive a free postcard featuring photos from the exhibition.
